JT Engineering, Inc. (JT) is currently looking for a full-time Civil Engineering Technician for drafting, plan production, engineering, and surveying tasks in any of our four Wisconsin office locations. The position involves technical design, drafting, and production of construction plans, construction observation, and surveying as part of a cohesive statewide team. The ideal candidate will spend time as required working in the field and the office.

We serve public and private sector clients in the areas of transportation, municipal, stormwater, and structural engineering, in addition to surveying and construction management.

Position Responsibilities


  • Use engineering and design software and equipment, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation, to draft and prepare construction plans and specifications for roadway and structure projects.
  • Prepare engineering computations and quantity estimates.
  • Prepare or modify reports, environmental documents, construction schedules, and permit applications.
  • Prepare meeting displays and exhibits.
  • Assist in monitoring project schedules and activities.
  • Perform municipal engineering, utility, and site design tasks.
  • Research and problem solve design or construction-related concerns found in the field.


  • Perform on-site inspection for road construction projects.
  • Perform on-site inspection for municipal projects.
  • Perform field quantity measurements and calculations.
  • Perform daily project documentation of work performed.
  • Perform material testing and project materials tracking and documentation.
  • Implement and enforce WisDOT Highway Construction Specifications.
  • Perform periodic surveys and construction staking operations.


  • Conduct field survey efforts for roadway, site, and energy design projects using Trimble GNSS, S-Series Total Stations, and Trimble data collectors.
  • Serve as a technical resource for survey efforts conducted by company staff.
  • Coordinate with survey leader and office staff to prioritize existing work.
  • Effectively communicate with clients, staff, and management.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, calculations, and deliverables conducted by others or yourself.
  • Process survey data and prepare base maps using Civil 3D.
  • Research previous survey evidence, including maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent field.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-starter with meticulous attention to detail – demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, organized, monitors own work to ensure quality and meet deadlines.
  • Be results-oriented and able to prioritize work with limited supervision.
  • Interested in one or all of the following (having experience in any of the following is a plus):
    • Drafting/plan production, civil engineering, construction inspection, surveying, and right of way platting.
  • Experience with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle for travel between job sites.
  • Physically able to perform work in the field. 
  • Occasional out of town and overnight travel is required.
  • Legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions, or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located. 

Bonus Qualifications

  • Possess or willing to work towards a Certified Survey Technician (CST) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems FAA Part 107 License.
