The Opportunity

The Peninsula State Park project presented a unique opportunity to rehabilitate approximately 8 miles of deteriorating access road pavement, characterized by visible cracking and past failed repair attempts. The substandard road conditions posed safety risks for non-motorized users and diminished visitor comfort.

The project intended to extend the service life of these access roads, thus enhancing the overall user experience. Moreover, given the park’s status as one of Wisconsin’s busiest, the strategic selection of a construction timeframe was vital. The goal was to minimize the impact on visitor safety and convenience while also preventing excessive increases in construction timelines and costs due to high visitor numbers. Despite the terrain and soil conditions, no significant stormwater drainage issues were anticipated, simplifying the project’s execution.

The Outcome

JT successfully managed the project, encompassing survey, pavement design, plan preparation, drainage design, and final plans, specifications, and estimates for the Department of Administration.
